Old Navy's "February Air"

Ever wonder what that catchy song featured on the new Old Navy commercial is?? Well after seeing it so many times during the award show season this past month, I have done some research and found this fabulous artist and song, both which I can't get enough of. And considering it's the last day of February, I figured what perfect timing to share this bit of news...

WHO: Lights
WHAT: "February Air"
WHERE: Her MySpace Page (You must add her as a friend!)

And just for fun, a clip of the Old Navy commerical:

Be Back Sunday!

It's not even Friday, but I am spent! This has been a stressful week and I need a break from things like technology. All I want to do is crawl in bed with a good book and escape from the world.

Once I recharge my batteries, I'll be back with beauty news here at Kiss-and-Makeup and more of my fabulous comments on life at Oh My God Girl on Sunday.

Until then, have a good weekend!

Is it pool season yet??

Well Cindy Crawford and Melissa Odabash seem to think so. They were spotted shopping for swimwear last week at the Peninsula Hotel in L.A.

Ashlee Simpson parties at Marquee

Owen and Kate doing the "nasty"

According to this week's Us Weekly mag Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson may be back at it again. After Owen's suicide attempt, Kate must be ready to give Owen another chance at love. She broke it off with him because of the lack of attention she was receiving from him due to his part hardy ways. It's kinda weird that Owen, who's' knocking on 40's door, parties more than Kate at 28.

"They are hooking up," a Wilson insider told Us. Confirms a Hudson source, "They have definitely been talking, hanging out and, yes, hooking up."

This Looks Promising...

Clinique is one of my favorite companies for skin care. Admittedly, I'm not mad about their moisturizer, but I still think they make great skin care products. Now Clinique has an interesting product on the market called Even Better Skin Tone Corrector.

Even Better Skin Tone Corrector promises to even out skin tone by reducing "visible evidence of sun damage, dark patches, skin stresses, ages spots, and the darkening that follows visible scarring." It can be used by women of all ethnic backgrounds and leaves skin even, bright, and clear. It can be used anywhere you have damage: the face, hands, neck, chest....wherever. A bottle of this stuff costs $39.50 and it takes about six weeks to see results.

I don't have visible sun damage yet, but I do have uneven skin--thanks to my pale skin and propensity for pinkness. I know a lot of women who would love to undo some of the damage they've done by lying out in the sun or baking in a tanning bed. If this product is able to do all that it says it can do, I imagine it will be in demand! Who doesn't want even toned skin? Sign me up!

Give Me Some Sugar!

Quick! What's your favorite lip balm? Why do you love it?

I use lip balm every day. If I don't want to fuss with lipstick or if I'm lounging around my house, I usually apply a generous layer of balm and call it good. My two favorites are Burt's Bees (I like the cool, fresh, minty-ness of it) and Boot's Mediterranean Grape, Olive, and Nectarine (I love it's slickness and interesting flavor combo). For me, lip balm needs to be appropriately lubricating and yummy tasting.

Well, now a company called ON10 is making lip balms in some of our favorite sweet flavors. Head over to Sephora and pick your flavor from either: Hershey's Milk Chocolate, Hershey's Almond, Dr. Pepper, Dr. Pepper Berries and Cream, Schweppe's Lime, or Schweppe's Sparkling Pink. These balms are all beautifully packaged in vintage-inspired tins and range in price from $9 to $16.

These could be a bit too sweet, but since they look so cute, they'd make great gifts for your friends and family. I'd rather a Hershey's Almond lip balm in my Easter basket than an actual Hershey's Almond candy bar, but then I'm weird that way!

Look Younger...Easier!

Who doesn't want to look younger? If you talk to 10 women, I bet 9 of them would like to appear younger. I'm only 32, and already I'm on a preemptive attack against wrinkles and the annoying signs of premature aging.

I swear by eye creams, moisturizers, and makeup to make myself presentable to the world. I have no interest in botox or surgical procedures for many reasons. If you're looking for easy ways to look younger, try these tips:
  • Let your skincare products set before applying your makeup! Doing so allows the product to penetrate you skin's surface so it can do it's job. In a pinch for time? Turn your hair dryer on Cool and blow it over your face to speed up the "drying time" for your skin care lotions and sunblocks.
  • Look for products containing mushrooms. Mushrooms are rich in anti-oxidants and decrease inflammation which leads to wrinkles and loss of firmness. Check out Origin's line of Plantidote products or Aveeno's Positively Ageless line--all of which are packed with those beneficial 'shrooms (they don't call 'em magic mushrooms for nothing!).
  • Use a nighttime moisturizer. Many anti-aging products contain retinoids, and these compounds work better when not exposed to sunlight. Vitamins C and E, also ingredients in many anti-agers, do better when kept away from daylight, so applying strong anti-aging night creams before hitting the sack will give you the most anti-aging bang for your buck.
  • Avoid wrinkles by sleeping on your back. I know it seems stupid, but experts swear that sleeping on your stomach or side mashes your skin and causes facial wrinkles. This is bad news for me--I hate sleeping on my back. Maybe I can just switch to a silky pillowcase or something!
These hints may help turn back the hands of time...even if just a little. They certainly couldn't hurt!

Attention LORAC Lovers

I love palettes, even though I probably shouldn't! I like that all the colors I need are in one place and that I don't have to pull out two different eye shadows, a separate blush...whatever. Palettes put all the colors and product I need in one compact place.

I've tried many a palette collection in my day and I really like those from LORAC. On sale tomorrow, just in time for spring, is LORAC's newest palette, the Best Dressed Face Palette.

Tori Tells All

In her upcoming autobiography, Tori Spelling is revealing that Donna Martin wasn’t the only one who had a crush on David Silver.

“I had an insta-crush on Brian Austin Green,” Spelling reveals in excerpts to People. “Brian was the guy on the show my age. We had something going over the years we worked together. We were always fighting, making up, having fun and hating each other. We were just young.”

Not only does Spelling reveal the chemistry that the whole world may have been rooting for, but she also dishes out some other interesting dirt:

Shannen Doherty’s confirmed bad-girl image.

“A night with [Shannen] meant going to the hottest club and drinking until the early hours. I knew she was a ‘bad influence,’ but I liked her anyway.”

Doherty and Jennie Garth’s rocky relationship.

“Shannen had everything, but she could be arrogant and carefree. Jennie [Garth] was outspoken when she thought Shannen was out of line. Sometimes they got along, but there were explosions. Once they got into a fistfight.”

Luke Perry’s nickname for Spelling.

“As for Luke Perry, he called me ‘Camel’ because I had long eyelashes. Trust me, Luke Perry can call you ‘Camel’ and make it sexy.”

For more 90210 drama and an inside look into Spelling’s life, look for sTori Telling to be in stores around March.

Beauty Product of the Week: Humectress Luxe Leave-in Spray

What is it? The new Nexxus Humectress Luxe Ultimate Moisturizing Leave-in Spray "goes beyond your daily conditioner to continuously nourish and hydrate your hair to keep it looking radiantly healthy and shiny. This scientifically-proven formula, with Vitamin E, Coconut Oil, and Honey Extract, seals in strength and intense hydration while it nourishes and nurtures hair back to bouncy, healthy condition. Glistening agents give you a deep, dimensional shine for hair that looks and feels salon-beautiful." Available wherever Nexxus products are sold for $9.99.

What did you think? I don't usually use leave-in products, and was skeptical that this one would do anything for my hair. Boy was I wrong!

The first thing I noticed when I sprayed this leave-in conditioner on my damp hair was the light but unquestionable scent of coconut oil. Even though I don't like to eat coconut, I do like the way it smells, so this was a good thing. The scent is so light, though, that it doesn't linger...also a good thing.

After drying my hair, I instantly noticed a new-found shimmer to my blonde locks. Then I touched my hair and it felt incredibly soft. Could it be? This product did everything it said it would do? Why yes! I believe it did!

The final verdict? $10 for soft, shiny hair seems like a bargain. Nexxus Humectress Luxe Ultimate Moisturizing Leave-in Spray is worth every penny. I was impressed by how healthy my hair looked after using it...it made my sometimes unruly hair easy to style, super soft, and glistening with a new found luster. I'm hooked!

Lindsay's Out-Takes

NY Magazine has released new "out-take" photos from Linday's Lohan's now infamous Marilyn Monroe-inspired shoot. See the other revealing rejected shots HERE.

Eye Shadow for Dummies

Maybe it's just me, but I've never had a problem figuring out how to apply eye shadow, probably because I've been experimenting with makeup since I was a kid. However, there are certainly plenty of women out there who think adding color to their lids is a difficult task. Well now these women are in luck! There's a foolproof system for applying eyeshadow on the market: ColorOn Pro Instant Eyeshadow.

I can't make stuff like this up!

The ColorOn Pro Instant Eyeshadow kit contains ovals of color that you apply to your eyes...no need for brushes, Q-Tips, or smudging. Here's what the company says about applying their product:

For a lighter application:

Peace (center oval on lash line, holding in place with index and middle finger, making a “peace sign”)
Pat (the back of the applicator gently with index finger from your free hand)
Peel (back the applicator from eyelid)
Tap (eye shadow on lid with finger to gently blend to desired result)
Set (lightly with powder provided to ensure a comfortable, long-wearing; crease-proof look all day)

For a heavier application:

Peace (center pad on lash line, holding in place with index and middle finger, making a “peace sign”)
Rub (the back of the applicator gently with index finger from your free hand)
Peel (back the applicator from eyelid)
Tap (eye shadow on lid with finger to gently blend to desired result)
Set (lightly with powder provided to ensure a comfortable, long-wearing; crease-proof look all day)

While I find the concept of this product somewhat amusing, I do think they might be useful in two cases:
  1. If you are unable to use a brush or other precision tool because you have shaky hands. Some people have conditions that cause their hands to shake, and the shaking makes it difficult to get a clean application of color. The peel and stick approach to eyeshadow would really help these women.
  2. If you're traveling and don't want to pack a ton of cosmetics and tools. Whenever I travel, I struggle over whether or not to pack my brushes. On one hand, I need them to get my makeup on. On the other, I don't want to run the risk of losing them if the airplane carrier magically sends my luggage to Ipanema.
What do you think? Would you ever use these? For more information on this product and how to purchase it, click here.

Beauty As Art, Part 2

Yesterday I told you how Sephora is getting ready for Spring by rolling out some new ideas about beauty, with their Beauty as Art campaign. If you don't want to update your entire look, Sephora wants you to at least consider tweaking your lashes, your eyes, or your lips with one of these looks:

Surrealist Lashes: "Push the limits of reality with spring's newest mascaras. Guerlain Le 2 uses two different brushes—a big one for length and volume; a tiny one that's tilted seven degrees for super precision—to achieve unbelievable lashes. Smashbox Bionic Mascara is ionically charged, binding to and volumizing lashes with magnetic force (really!). LORAC introduces an innovative four-sided brush for a multitasking mascara that literally does it all, and CARGO's blu_ray™ Mascara was created to look perfect on High Definition TV—making you ready for your close-up, in HD, that is."

My take: Even though I used to swear by Great Lash (and still buy this beauty cult classic when I need to be nicer to my finances), I find myself smitten by the more expensive mascaras on the market. I've been trying the pricier brands lately and I love the extreme length and thickness you can get with them. I can't wait to try the Smashbox Bionic Mascara...that sounds fun! And how funny that CARGO designed a mascara to look great on HDTV. I love that technological advancements are changing the way we think about makeup!

Impressionist Eyes: "From eggplant to violet to burgundy, purple lids are spring's most avant-garde trend. On the runways, purples were given an Impressionist flare; different tones and textures were layered for a shimmering, Water Lilly-like effect. This approach may seem dramatic, but it's actually quite wearable. The light, shiny highlighters will soften the darker purples—start out bold, and take the color down with highlighter till you reach your perfect degree of purple haze."

My take: Be careful here...a little goes a long way. While violet, eggplant, and other purples can add a great deal of drama to your look, you have to be sure you apply it right and that your makeup is appropriate for the rest of your look. You can be subtle with purples by pairing them up with neutrals and by either smudging them or using a light hand. If you want to try this out for yourself, I suggest you practice, practice, practice!

The Kiss: "Lips stains that give a fresh, slightly rouged, just-been-kissed look are hot for spring. We love this new crop of stains because they're moisturizing (stains and chapped lips decidedly don't mix), infused with good-for-you antioxidants, and many (Stila, Too Faced and Smashbox) can actually personalize their color to a shade that looks best on you. Now that's a kiss we want."

My take: I love trying out new lipsticks! Lipsticks that contain antioxidants? Score! Customizable lipshades? Definite score! I think changing your normal lipcolor provides the most bang for the buck. If you don't want to invest a lot of money but want to shake up your look, always go for a new lipcolor. So easy, so fun, so just do it!

Pink and Carey to Be Divorced

Pink, 28, and her husband, motocross racer, Carey Hart, 32, are getting a divorce. "While the marriage is over, their friendship has never been strong," says Pinks publicist, Michele Shweitzer.

The couple met in 2001 at the X Games, nad married in January 2006.

Beauty As Art

After a Winter of torrential rain, flooding, below average temperatures, and ice, we're finally experiencing some lovely weather in the Pacific Northwest. Even though it's February, it's sunny and slightly warm out, and it has me longing for Spring. I'm not alone in my desire for a new season: the good folks at Sephora have launched their Spring campaign--Beauty As Art--and are featuring several new looks to inspire us.

And of course I have my own opinions on the matter!

Here are Sephora's looks for the Spring. I'll first give you what they have to say about each look and then I'll throw in my thoughts for good measure!

Renaissance Glow: "Spring's freshest runway looks conjured up Botticelli's famous Birth of Venus painting—fresh skin, nude lips, and glowing cheeks epitomize today's modern Madonna. Score the look with some of spring's most exciting new products—Hourglass' gorgeously addictive foundation (our creative director is hooked), Stila's brilliantly strategic contouring kits (hello, cheekbones), Benefit's super-fresh Thrrrob powder, and NARS' new nude gloss which—thanks to a touch of apricot—is wearable on every skintone."

My take: I love this look. This "less is more" approach makes your skin the focus, and the nude tones are flattering for everyone. Plus it's easy to do and is appropriate for almost any occasion.

Neoclassic Beauty: "Look neo-classy in spring's boisterous spin on glamour. When it comes to shadow, gold is the new beige. It's the light, sparkly, warm-weather neutral that works day to night. We love smudging it on a little imperfectly; the refined texture of this season's luxe cream and powder shadows made even a purposely-sloppy application look gorgeous. Add a succulent coral pucker—matte or shiny, whichever you prefer—and you've got the most classic look of the season."

My take: I love this one too! This is a more done up version of the Renaissance look. It allows for mistakes, and the sooner we learn that perfection and beauty are two entirely different things, the better off we'll be.

Pop Art Makeup: "At the fashion shows, makeup artists experimented with live-wire colors in shocking combos like orange and purple, Kelly green and red, and spots of bright blue just about everywhere (even on the lips!). The trick to wearing lots of vibrant colors at once is to make sure the undertones match. And, try using the color in an unexpected place—a flash on your lashes (ahem, Longo's brilliant new mascaras), or, Make Up For Ever's Flash Color in Pale Blue 20 as eye liner."

My take: No. No. No. Unless you're posing for a Warhol painting, are an actress portraying a crazy character, or are a drag queen, this is not a good look. It's too much...too colorful, to theatrical, too out there for an everyday look. Some people may be able to pull off this look, but unless you're very skilled at makeup application and have the confidence to really rock this look, you'll just end up looking foolish. Sorry!

Sephora also wants you to update your lashes, eyes, and lips this season and make them works of art as well. I'll give you the skinny on that tomorrow! But until then, what look do you like best from Sephora's Spring campaign? Leave a comment and let me know!

Ana Celebrates At Wilmer's Big Bash

Wilmer Valderamma recently celebrated his 28th birthday and Ana Ortiz, from the hit-show Ugly Betty, was there for the big event. After gracing the front row of many a show during Fashion Week, Ortiz, as usual, looked stunning in her party dress as she celebrated his bday dinner at Social Stanton, sponsored by Don Julio. Ortiz attended as just a friend of Wilmer.

Lindsay as Marilyn

Lindsay Lohan appears like she's never been seen before in the Spring Fashion issue of New York magazine on stands today.

In an exclusive photo portfolio by Bert Stern, the same photographer who shot the original "Last Sitting" six weeks before Marilyn Monroe was found dead due to an apparent overdose in 1962, Lohan recreates the famous series of photos down to a tee. From the lighting and the shellacked blonde wig to Lohan's willingness to appear in little more than a chiffon scarf, the photos were shot on Feb. 5 at the Hotel Bel-Air. Telling the magazine that she was comfortable with the nudity, although admitting she had done "250 crunches" the night before the shoot, Lohan explained why it was so easy to recreate the well-known photos. "I didn't have to put much thought into it. I mean, Bert Stern? Doing a Marilyn shoot? When is that ever going to come up? It's really an honor."

No stranger to scandal herself, Lohan calls Monroe's suicide "tragic" and tells the magazine, "You know, it's also tragic what just recently happened to someone else." When asked if she was referring to Heath Ledger, she answered, "They are both prime examples of what this industry can do to somone." Adding, "...I sure as hell wouldn't let it happen to me."

Maxi Pads for Your Feet? WTF?

I've been watching way too much TV lately, because I've seen my share of crazy "as seen on TV" products. One item I saw an ad for recently was Kinoki Detox Foot Pads. And I hate to admit it, but even though I know this product is ridiculous and most likely full of hype, I kinda, sorta want to try them.

Damn advertising!

So, what are these things anyway? They look like maxi pads...for your feet. They really do! You stick them on to the soles of your feet when you go to bed at night and they pull all of the toxins, heavy metals, and other nasty crap in your body out through your feet. According to their "clinical research" and tests, using the pads will boost the immune system, improve sleep quality, and maximize your health.

The most disgusting thing about this product is that when you use it, the next morning when you peel it off the pad goes from white to an icky green, brown, black, or tan color depending on what toxins are being pulled out of you. After using the pads for a few days, the color fades away. When your pads are clear in the morning, all the garbage from your body is supposedly officially gone.

The price of this amazing treatment? $19.99 for a two week supply (plus shipping and handling!) or you can go with a lifetime supply if you're so inclined.

What do you think? Again, I have my doubts that this could actually work, but there's a part of me that is so intrigued. I really should try them. If only they were available in stores!
