Estee Lauder University: Lesson 1

I'm on the email lists of several of the big cosmetics companies, and this week, Estee Lauder is sending me a message a day to debunk seven common beauty myths. As a service to you, I am going to do a recap of each "myth vs. reality" message I get--I'm all about sharing the knowledge! So, look for a new recap each day this week and together we'll be beauty experts!

Myth #1: Foundation is bad for your skin.

Reality according to Estee Lauder: False! Foundation can help protect your skin from yucky things like pollution and the harsh effects of the sun. Of course, Estee Lauder wants to remind you that they sell foundations that contain SPF (for me, being ultra-fair skinned, this is a huge deal--I always try to buy moisturizers and foundations with SPF), foundations that can last up to 15 hours, and foundations that can provide a subtle "lift"--especially good for aging, sagging skin. (God, I am so not looking forward to getting old, but what's the alternative?)

Lydia's reality: I'm a fan of foundation and wear it every time I do my face. I like the evened out appearance foundation gives me, especially since I tend to have some blotchy areas on my face. I also like that foundation can minimize the look of my pores, and god does it ever come in handy when I have an occasional zit. If you've read me for awhile, you know I'm a recent mineral foundation convert. Mineral based foundation not only provides great coverage and SPF protection, it also feels lighter and is less messy than the liquid stuff. That said, there are plenty of great liquid-based foundations out there. I would rather face the world without any eye makeup on than go out without foundation.

That's lesson #1--it was a pretty simple one, but hey--we'll see what Estee Lauder has in store for us tomorrow. If you want to receive email updates from Estee Lauder, click here.
