Review: Revlon Age Defying Spa + EA Color Intrigue E/S

My two cents about the above mentioned products:

REVLON AGE DEFYING SPA MAKEUP

DESCRIPTION (AS PER REVLON'S WEBSITE):
"Instantly revitalizes and brightens for radiant, flawless coverage. Protects against fine lines.
  • Stone Therapy minerals help energize stressed skin
  • Vitamin C fusion brightens
  • Antioxidants and SPF 18 strengthen skin's natural defense systems"
It says on the website the "SoftLuxe Brush helps awaken the Skin". Yeah yeah, I don't like it. But I like the product.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH IT: First of all, this one is nothing like the others Age Defying Foundations by Revlon. It even smells good, lol.

I bought this foundation some weeks ago, have used it about 6-7 times and now has become my "go out to get the kids and came back" foundation (sorry Maybelline's Pure Makeup!--I still like you though). This liquid foundation feels good on my skin.

The ingredients list includes minerals, antioxidants and vitamin C, but bear in mind that, like many other products we love, it does have different types of silicon and parabens. It has Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide which are physical blockers (my fave). Because of this type of sunblock, you do see a white cast upon application, but it goes clear in seconds and I haven't had issues with it showing up when I sweat or in pictures.

This product provides a light to medium coverage, evens out my skin quite a bit (not completely and I do need full coverage for my skin to look even) but I already knew that when I bought it. It only comes in 8 shades and I don't think the darkest one could work for ladies with very dark skin. It truly provides a "radiant" finish, naturally dewy skin without looking too greasy. I do have to say it doesn't help much at controlling my oily t-zone, but I really don't mind that since I don't use it for long periods of time. I just like it feels very refreshing, like a very rich tinted moisturizer. There is no Bismuth in it, so there's not itchy skin and it hasn't break me out.

I like the foundation comes in a tube. I really don't care for the whatever brush it has. You have to turn "on" the tube and squeeze it to get the product out, then turn it "off" and use the brush to distribute it on the face. Anyway, I don't like the brush and just use it to apply dots of product on my face, wash the brush and let it dry.

I guess you guys will like this if you do not need too much coverage, are searching for dewy-looking makeup that feels light while providing anti-aging ingredients to the skin, don't mind using blotting paper after a couple of hours and you like SPF in your foundation.

If you have super oily skin, I would suggest to stay away from it.

PRICE: USD $12-$14 -- I think its a bit overpriced, get them on one of those BOGO free sales.

RATING: 4/5 (It would be nice it Revlon could provide more shades, better with a lower retail price and perfect if it could give more coverage without somehow feeling too heavy...ahhh...)

I took some pics of me using it but mind you, they were taken about 4 hrs after application and the weather that day was hot+humid. I didn't use primer when I took these and it behaved well. It does last a bit longer when I do use primer. Look below the Elizabeth Arden e/s review for the pics.

ELIZABETH ARDEN COLOR INTRIGUE E/S (SINGLES)

**Look for more swatches and product photos on this previous post**

DESCRIPTION (AS PER EA WEBSITE): "Rich, true color that lasts all day. Vitamin-enriched. Crease resistant. Silky smooth. In 24 shades."

MY EXPERIENCE WITH IT: As you may remember from my earlier post, I got them all on sale ($3 USD each on Walgreens). They were all in excellent condition and from the moment I opened the little package, I knew they were good quality. I think they have different finishes: some are frost(F), some were more like satin(S), others more matte(M). All of them are very soft.

Pigmentation on them varies: Teak(M), Shadow(F) and Urban(M) are very pigmented. Sparkle(F) could work as a beautiful highlight and Mingle(S) looks beautiful all over the lid. Lucky(S) is very pretty, kind of iridescent finish, same as Shadow. Shadow looks very dark from the top, but at an angle, you can see the gold shimmer in it. So pretty!

I have used them over the EA Eye Fix primer, which I really don't like because I don't think it does anything to help with the creasing and it is terrible as a base. I used it on purpose to see how the shadows would hold on top of it. They didn't crease and also did not cause itchiness on my lids (they do have bismuth oxychloride, like my beloved MAC e/s).

I do wish they have more variety, more colors (EA says 24 shades but I counted 28?). All colors are kinda neutral. I guess that is not what EA is about--scandalous, super bright colors...hello MAC! lol.

PRICE: Reg.--USD $15.00 for 2.15 g (MAC e/s are $14.50 for 1.5 g). **I don't know if I's pay full price of these though.

RATING: 4/5

And finally, here a simple look I did the other day using the Age Defying Spa Foundation and the e/s. The eyeshadow colors I used were Sparkle all over lid with a soft application of Teak on the crease.

Wow, that was more like $100 than two cents. I'll go to sleep now, it's super late.

Beauty Confessions: Dirty Girl!

Last week, I confessed to you that I commit a beauty sin: I wash my hair each and every day.

Well, now I need to make another confession: Even though I know better, I don't always wash my face before going to bed at night. Yes, I admit it. Sometimes I fall asleep with my makeup on. I hang my head in shame.

According to professionals, not washing your face leaves makeup and other environmental gunk that you pick up during the day clinging to your skin. All this yucky stuff can lead to clogged pores which means that zits and blackheads could erupt all over your face just because you're too tired to wash your face.

Even though I sometimes skip the all important step of washing my face with warm water and a gentle cleanser, I almost always try to use a facial wipe, like Boot's No. 7 Quick Thinking 4-in-1 Wipes to get my makeup off.

How about you? Do you wash your face every night, or do you fall asleep with the morning's mascara caked in your lashes? Let me know....leave a comment!

Walgreens Haul: Elizabeth Arden and other stuff (w/swatches)

I went to Walgreens to pick up some things for my husband and, pain in my back and everything, I just had to see if there was anything new on the makeup aisle and they did have new stuff. Revlon's new Double Twist Mascara, new Colorstay Mineral Mousse Makeup SPF20 and Mineral Finishing Powder (that look pretty similar to MAC MSFs). Click HERE to go to NouveauCheap Blog to see pics of the products. Btw, her blog is really cool.

I bought the new Revlon mascara ($6.99, reg. $8.99) and right of the bat I will tell I wish I hadn't. But I will post a separate review on that thing later on. I will wait for a BOGOfree sale on Revlon cosmetics to get the new foundation--I read it doesn't have Bismuth, which I'm a little allergic to (that's one of the downsides of my beloved Colorstay Makeup for Normal/Dry skin). Probably won't get the Finishing powder because it has that ingredient--I remember I loved the MAC MSF Natural I got sometime ago, but had to stop using it because my face wouldn't stop itching. It was so pretty, great as foundation... =(

Anyway, let's continue. To my surprise, I checked the makeup clearance bin they always have around and found 6 Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue E/S, mostly neutral colors, in perfect condition---just $3 USD each! (they normally retail for $15 USD each). I am always a little skeptical when I see high end products at such low prices, but I took a chance with these e/s, since the package was completely sealed and they appeared to be in good condition. I thought that maybe these e/s were manufactured more than a year ago. I took all six and paid less than $20 bucks, including tax. I am so glad I did!

The shadows I got were:
1. Sparkle--soft shimmery peachy beige pink (yeah, I know, hell of a description haha). Reminds me of MAC's Shroom.
2. Mingle--shimmery brown, well more satin finish than frosty. Looks like Retrospeck? Not sure, but I love it.
3. Teak--soft reddish matte brown, looks like a darker version of MACs Wedge.
4. Lucky--very similar to MACs Beautiful Iris e/s, bit more glittery.
5. Shadow--Dark gray/olive green with gold flecks, like mixing MAC's Mink&Sable with Smoke&Diamonds (I actually did that to verify).
6. Urban- Off black, matte. Similar to MAC's Typographic e/s.

I just took some pics of this haul, including the mascara and eyeshadows. Hope this swatches are helpful to you.

That's all for now boys and girls.

Be a Natural Beauty at Sephora!

First off, thanks so much to all of you who have left comments about the how much we are eco-conscious when making our cosmetics purchases. Sounds like you all are a lot like me. You know you should care more than you actually do. It's hard to make the switch to more natural products, but it's getting easier all the time...especially if you're willing to pay a little more for your products.

The good folks over at Sephora are, of course, helping make us all more naturally beautiful by offering up numerous "eco-chic" products. Here are some to check out:

GET AN EASY ECO-CHIC LOOK
Let's go back to basics. When we think about natural beauty, we think of perfectly clear skin. But you can also punch up the color and embrace the classically natural.
  1. Prep your skin with a face primer like Korres Silicone Free Face Primer ($28). It is an innovative formula of soothing natural botanical ingredients that refine the skin texture by reducing redness and uneven or dull skin tones. The primer creates a non-oily silky film that acts as a barrier between the skin and makeup to reveal flawless, long-lasting skin.
  2. Follow up with Tarte ReCreate Foundation ($37). An anti-aging foundation with Wrinkle Rewind technology and SPF 15 that protects from UVA/UVB rays, this foundation provides medium to full coverage while hydrating and brightening.
  3. To finish in a flash, swipe on Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! ($18). Referred to as a push-up bra for lashes, this four-in-one (lengthening, curling, volumizing, and conditioning) dermatologists and clinically tested mascara presents a sexy fringe to compliment your dewy complexion. Now you have an effortlessly eco-chic look.
  4. If you're craving more color on your face, take your eco-chic look one step further and try out some of the bright colors in Sephora's Pure Natural 7-Color Palette ($36). This is a multipurpose palette that comes with three trendy shadow colors, three basic brown shadow colors, and a blush that will have you creating vibrant looks from day to night.
I'll be back tomorrow with more eco-chic products that will make your skin look even more flawless and radiant! In the meantime, I'll be trying out many of the products listed here and will be sure to report back soon!

LOOK: Before and After---What a difference foundation makes

I like to compare from time to time b4 and after pics, to see what I'm doing wrong/right. I know I have come a long way since I started dealing with makeup almost 1.5 yrs ago. One of those things I have worked on, and still always trying to be better at, is evening out my complexion. I like my skin, it behaves most of the time. What I don't like are the dark/sun spots that cover most of my cheeks and forehead. This is one of the reasons I am always looking for good foundation. I need to have more than one product that works for my skin and meet my demands (great coverage, water/sweat resistant, not cakey, easy to work with).

Right now I'm testing the MAC foundation samples I got the last week (gonna try them for another week b4 reviewing) but I find myself missing my Revlon Colorstay. Yes, I wrote missing. Honestly, I think the only product that could come near my Revlon CS is the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation--for what I have read and seen. Gonna be checking that one soon.

I did this simple look about two weeks ago, just to take some pics and make a comparison. Ah, I love my Colorstay, you could say it really makes miracles.

SIDE BY SIDE COMPARISON

You see why I love my foundation right? By evening out the skin, you will instantly look younger and yes, feel better! LOL. Do your homework, find the foundation that works for you and look fabulous--Oh, but remember, you do need to have a good skin care regimen and eat healthy...I am still working on that last part...

Talk to you later lovelies!
