Blog News: New template =)

Hi guys! Just wanted to mention that I changed the blog's template. It's a very simple one, but as always with colors.  It has some new features, like you can mark at the end of a post if you liked it or hated it.  Still dealing with some stuff, but the posts and pics are up and running.

Hope you like it.  Have a nice week!

Sacha Baron Cohen's The Dictator

59522839

Paramount Pictures announced today that Sacha Baron Cohen’s new comedy The Dictator will be released worldwide on May 11, 2012. The studio also announced that Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno) has come aboard to direct.

As the press releases states: "The film tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed. It is inspired by the best selling novel Zabibah and The King by Saddam Hussein."

Uh-oh. Sounds like this film is going to be offensively funny. But, then again, we've come to expect that from Mr. Cohen.

TotalBeauty.com: Great eyeliners you can actually afford

Our readers say a great eyeliner doesn't always have to have a hefty price tag

Great Eyeliners You Can Actually Afford
This is a TotalBeauty.com eye makeup article
Smudged and smeared (in a bad way) eyes are a beauty disaster that needs to be avoided at all costs -- but how much are you willing to spend for a liner that doesn't budge? If your answer is $10 or less, this list is for you.

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 8

Readers call this the "liner with ease," a "staple in my makeup diet" and "great for first time liquid liner users."

One reader says, "this is simply the best eyeliner ever made. I have used this brand for over 20 years."

One woman says, "these babies go on super smoothly and evenly distribute A LOT of color. You can't do better for the buck, believe me."

Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipcolor: E190--Royal Red

I've blogged before about these lippies. I really like them and I'm sad to see them go, as Maybelline has discontinued them.  Many drugstores have them on sale and I got this gorgeous red ('Royal Red') the other day for less than a $3 USD.

I haven't tried the new Color Sensational, so I wonder what shade will be similar to this one?

Swatches: My black eyeliners (pencil)

Every January I like to check my makeup stash to see which product stay and which one wins a trip to the nearest trash can or the 'Don't like them anymore' drawer.  I did that the other day with foundations, now it's my black pencil eyeliners turn. In this case, eyeliner that I don't like, eyeliner that I throw away.

I decided to make some swatches, I always find swatches very helpful when comparing products.

++All pics are clickable++

From Top to Bottom (Brand--Shade):  MAC Khol Power--Feline; MAC Eye Khol--Smolder;
NYC Waterproof--Black; Urban Decay 24/7--Zero; Milani Liquif'Eye--Black; L'oreal HIP--Black; Prestige Waterproof--Black

All eyeliners, swiped just once (from left to right):
Feline, Smolder, NYC, UD, Milani, L'oreal, Prestige

 MAC Feline (top) and Smolder

UD Zero, Milani Liquif'Eye, Prestige Waterproof
(Zero is NOT glittery, I just applied it over a shimmery e/s;
forgot to clean it b4 taking the pic, sorry!  =/  )

Swatches (left to right): UD, Milani and Prestige

NYC Waterproof (top) and L'oreal HIP

NYC and L'oreal

Quick thoughts about them:
MAC Feline:  Very soft, a little more opaque than Smolder hence it looks darker (IMH); not great for waterlines (well, it's a khol e/l after all; I do use it on waterlines when doing smokey eyes look); awesome for blending and smudging.
MAC Smolder:  Very soft, also great for smokey eyes. A classic.
NYC Waterproof:  Feel very 'waxy', hard to blend--okay, I understand: it is wp after all); it barely shows on my waterline (I bought it to use it there). Honestly, I think it's pretty bad.
Urband Decay Zero:  Not as black as I would like but excellent on the lash lines and waterlines; last a pretty long time, be sure to work with it fast before it sets.
Milani Liquif'Eye: Love how deep this shade is; a dream to work with, glides  very smoothly on the eyelids, lash lines and waterlines; lasts a long time; the only thing is I can't use it on my waterline, makes them feel dry--to be fair, I don't know if Milani indicates it can be used on the waterlines).
L'oreal HIP: Terrible; Super waxy; I think it is discontinued, glad if it is.
Prestige Waterproof:  Average; doesn't show much on my waterline but works okay on the lash line.

I kept the MAC ones, the UD, and Milani and throw all the 3 others to the trash.  I do have gel eyeliners (maybe 2?), a formula I really like.  Will check them soon.

Have a great weekend.

Miss Piggy Gets a New Gig

misspiggy

We just found out that Miss Piggy will be playing a French Vogue editor in the new Muppet Movie, coming out next year, starring Jason Segal and Amy Adams. She certainly has the 'tude to pull this role off! How hilarious?!? We love it! Kermit might make good arm-candy, but he's got nothing on that vintage Chanel...

Smooth Operator

Shaving is a pain.  Not only do you risk injury, but you're probably also coating your legs in some iffy chemicals when you use normal run-of-the-mill shave creams, foams, and gels.

I recently tried a few products from Pacific Shaving Company and, though they didn't make shaving the most pleasurable moment of my day, they were a nice change of pace.  Pacific Shaving Company makes both an all natural shaving oil and an all natural shaving cream.

ALL NATURAL SHAVING OIL, $6.95
Designed for both men and women, shaving oil comes in a tiny bottle--but a little goes a long way.  Here's what the company says about the oil: provides a consistently smooth shave that leaves your face conditioned and moisturized, not oily. It also applies clear so you can finally see where you're shaving - particularly great for shaving around blemishes, sculpting a beard or moustache - even shaving your head! (Ladies - say goodbye to those cuts around your ankles.).  Here's my take: I didn't use this on my legs--I wasn't sure how it would do over a larger area.  But I did try it for my underarms and it was nice.  I liked that it was clear so I could see what I was doing.  It would probably be good for the bikini area, too.

ALL NATURAL SHAVING CREAM, $8.95
Also for men and women. From the company: With natural and certified organic ingredients, our unique, low-lather formula is about to become your skin's best friend. But this isn't only about closer shaves - it's got you covered before, during and after. Here's what you can expect: Softer whiskers and superior lubrication, Healthy, hydrated and soothed skin, Protection from harsh environmental factors. And now my take: Of the two, I prefer this product. I like the feel of it better and I really like that a shave cream wasn't a bright, artificial color. I used this on my legs and it did a good job. I think I am way too used to crappy shave creams, but this was a decent, more natural alternative.

Pacific Shaving Company products can be purchased at Whole Foods, Target, CVS, and drugstore.com.

New Gucci Backpack

I know everyone remembers the era when the Gucci monogram bookbags were flooding every college campus. Well this time, lets see who has enough swag to pull of the knapsack backpack. Shoutout to Gucci for of course thinking ahead of time like always. The blue and red signature straps with the tobacco color leather gives it the more classic look. The cotton feel also make its lighter and more easier to fit different type of things inside. Navy is the new black and I personally was always more fond of Knapsacks than bookbags so you know i'm loving this Collabo.

Guess the Designers.

Time to go eat and shop.

Nicki x V Magazine

Safe to say that Nicki is taking over by storm. Here is once again another cover she's blessed with her beauty. The upcoming spring '11 issue on the cover of V Magazine.

You just shot the music video for your next single “Moment 4 Life,” featuring Drake. What are you working on next?
We’re shooting the video with Rihanna for “Fly” this weekend. We’re going to save the world in more ways than one with the video and that’s all I can say about that… I love Ri-Ri! I mean, when she’s not grabbing my ass she’s a sweet girl.

Who are some of your favorite artists outside of hip hop?
I like everyone. I don’t listen to music based on genre. Like, I’ll hear a song and then I’ll live for that song for like months and I’ll be like, “Who the hell is that?” I listen to Taylor Swift. I like Coldplay. I listen to gospel a lot. I listen to anything that’s just beautiful music.

Would you do a song with Taylor?
Of course!

Personally, I think you should do a song with Lady Gaga, who you’ve been compared to in the past.
A lot of people say that to me! I’d definitely be open to it, yeah… I mean, Gaga is badass. Being compared to greats can never bother me.

What does all your success mean to you?
I’m proud that women, female rappers that come in this game after Nicki Minaj can see that, you know what? There is a chance for you to sell just as much as the boys and to be recognized. And you don’t have to feel like, because you’re a female rapper, you going to not be recognized. And so for that alone, I’m proud. I’m happy.

Lastly, are you single?
Yes. I’m single and ready to mingle [laughs].

Make sure you look out for it on the newsstands.

Age-Busting Tips from Women's Health

For many of us, a new year means undergoing a lot of personal assessments.  We think about ways we want to improve our bodies, our finances, our lives, and our looks.  Even if we're not planning huge changes, we often want, at least, to rejuvenate our looks for a fresh, new start.

The first step is to kick signs of aging—many that can be surprisingly unexpected. Women’s Health magazine highlights four under-the-radar areas women should treat early to radiate youth.  Take a glance and enjoy!

Yellow Teeth and Receding Gums: Bacteria and dark drinks cause enamel stains, while plaque results in receding gums. Bring back a younger smile with a timeless trick: floss daily, no excuses! Also, keep your pearly whites glowing by keeping disposable toothbrushes on hand and using whitening strips every six months.

Thin Hair: Hormonal changes, diet, and inadequate levels of iron in the bloodstream thin out hair with age. Save your locks’ thickness and shine by taking multivitamins rich in amino acids and B vitamins. Last resort options like a Rogaine prescription or precision laser hair therapy also boost hair growth.

Sparse, Brittle Eyelashes: Eyelashes grow sparse with age, whether through excessive rubbing or naturally slower growth. Invest in eyelash enhancing serums offered at drugstores to improve resiliency. Old mascara also lends to weak, brittle ends— replace mascara every 90 days and remove eye makeup at night.

Dry, Rough Nails and Damaged Cuticles: Age, frequent hand washing, and overexposure to cold temperatures rob skin and nails of moisture—especially as women age. Hydrate hands with petroleum-based creams and massage cuticle oils into the nail beds to prevent breakage.

ELF Studio Powder Brush

Man, this brush rocks in so many ways. Such great quality for a very low price -- $3.00 USD--though I've always bought it from the ELF website at half the price.  I bought my first one almost a year ago and already have 3, because I use it for so many things: liquid foundation, loose powder (translucent or finishing powders), blush, blending products in my face. Wow.

I was watching this video recently uploaded by youtuber MissBecky0207 and the ways she applies foundation and powders is just as I like to do it. Great video, goes to the point.

'Watch The Throne'

The throne has gotten bigger, apparently. Jay-Z and Kanye has now made Watch The Throne, a full album! Kanye West made the statement this past New Years at Marquee nightclub during his "Runaway" in Las Vegas that the album could be dropped as early as next week. And tonight, he assured that the CD will be dropping next week in a tweet/twitpic (@KanyeWest). However there are rumors that the album will be dropping in early March. Whether it be a single or an album dropping next week I'm sure it's highly anticipated by many, so patiently we wait !!
