What Does Your Perfume Say About You?

I don't wear a lot of perfume. I'm always nervous about over-applying the scent and being THAT woman. You know the one I mean...the one who has a cloud of overpowering perfume wafting from her much like Pepe LePew in the old Looney Toon cartoons. When I do wear perfume, I apply it so lightly that I wonder why I bother.

The sense of smell is so powerful. Certain smells instantly conjure up memories of past experience, people who used to be in my life, and all the emotions associate with these things. So when I put on perfume, I wonder what my favorite scents say about me. Here are some thoughts:

Oriental family of fragrances

• Key notes include: Vanilla, Amber, Tonka Bean, Nutmeg and Black Pepper
• What do these scents say about you? Those who wear these scents are creative, loners, collectors, dramatic, traditional, polished, elegant and academic.

Citrus family of fragrances

• Key notes include: orange, lemon, honey
  
• What do these scents say about you? Those attracted to these fragrances are highly organized, disciplined, somebody who loves to plan, a perfectionist.

Fruity family of fragrances

• Key notes include: Blackberry, Raspberry and Peach
• What do these scents say about you? Those who prefer the fruity fragrances tend to be the party animal, very spontaneous, a team player, and a giggler.

Floral family of fragrances (White Floral)

• Key notes include: Lilies, Fresia, Gardenia, Jasmine
• What do these scents say about you? Those who enjoy these scents are sweet in nature, loyal to small groups of friends, and love to beautify.
  

Floral family of fragrances (Floral bouquets)

• Key notes include: Roses and Jasmine
• What do these scents say about you? The person who wears a Floral bouquet tends to be the beautifier, the collector, the host or hostess.

Woody family of fragrances

• Key notes include: Sandlewood, Cedarwood, and Longwood
• What do these scents say about you? Those who prefer woody fragrances are polished, traditional, academic, calm, cautious.

Green family of fragrances

• Key scents are reminiscent of leaves, grass, moss, hay, or morning dew drops
• What do these scents say about you? The wearers of these scents tend to be athletes, the sports lover, or the gardener.

Oceanic or Marine family of fragrance

• Key scents are reminiscent of sea kelp, the river, a ponds or rain
• What do these scents say about you? Those who prefer these fragrances tend to be claustrophobic, perhaps the idea of wide open spaces is soothing. They tend to be simplistic with their furnishing and even prefer jeans and a t-shirt and like to kickback.

Ozonic family of fragrances

• Key scents are reminiscent of fresh air or a mountain top
• What do these scents say about you? This person tends to be the corporate type who lives in the city but who likes to getaway. He or she lies between the city and country type, a sort of ying/yang balance. This person also is very trendy.

Gourmand family of fragrances

• Key notes include: foods like fig, dates, basmatic rice, cheese, drinks like tea, coffee or alcoholic beverages like scotch, whisky, port wine, champagne.
• What do these scents say about you? Hot, hot hot. This person is absolutely courageous, spontaneous, spiritual, and introspective.

According to this, I'd have to say that I prefer scents in the Oriental, Woody, and Gourmand families of fragrances. I guess I'm telling the world that, depending on the day, I am a creative loner, polished and traditional, or courageous and introspective. Surprisingly, that's not far from the truth!
