Question of the Day: What Gives You Instant Gratification?
1. Snagging an interview. Be it an A-list star or a C-list socialite, grabbing someone on the red carpet or inside an event for a quickie Q&A is always exciting. (Okay, it’s more gratifying when it’s someone you really admire and they give you awesome answers.) Really, it’s such a feeling of accomplishment! See me interview my four favorite gals HERE ... Shameless self promotion.)
2. Dishing the dirt. When you hear a piece of juicy gossip, it’s hard not to share. And I adore when others join the conversation. I love it when I get comments on my blog, emails in my inbox, and fan mail to my address. (Okay, fan mail only comes from my mom … but it’s still much appreciated.)
3. A cuddle with my puppy. I mean talk about instant gratification. I feed her, she thanks me with kisses. I play with her, she rewards me with love-bites. I scold her, and she still nuzzles into my neck. She's just the cutest toy poodle ever. (Her name, by the way, is Reese Witherspoon.)
What gives you instant gratification? Comment!

Beauty Product of the Week: LashBlast
What did you think? For several reasons, I am not typically a big fan of Cover Girl products. However, I read that this particular product won a pretty prestigious makeup award and thought I'd give it a try.
Because I am not usually enamored with "easy, breezy, beautiful" Cover Girl, part of me wanted to hate this product. Yes, I admit it: I came to this beauty product test with a hint of prejudice. I was thinking of ways to slam this product and was being very picky in my mental critiques. For example, I was not fond of the packaging. Cover Girl is trying to highlight the mascara brush, so they have it packaged separately from the actual tube of mascara. This means Cover Girl is using excess packaging by adding a plastic cap to the tube that is thrown out immediately and replaced with the wand. In my mind, being a compassionate consumer, this was a major complaint.
When I used the mascara for the first time, I noticed a strong chemical smell. Fatal flaw number 2, I thought.
But then I actually applied the mascara. Though it didn't do anything radical to make me rethink what mascara can do for me, it was easy to apply, made my lashes look longer, and made them look thicker. In short: it did everything a mascara is supposed to do...and it cost about $7. Not bad.
Final verdict? I concede. I shouldn't be so quick to prejudge because this product is pretty decent. If you've read me, you know that I'm a Great Lash girl when it comes to cheap mascara. However, Cover Girl's LashBlast is just as good as Great Lash. Apart from the packaging issues and the initial "mascara-y" scent, I can confidently state that LashBlast is a perfectly decent utilitarian mascara that won't break the bank.

Ashlee Simpson No More (And Def. Expecting!)
Oh and a little fyi, just a few moments ago, I saw the confirmation that everyone has been waiting for. The Wentzes are preggers!
"While many have speculated this, we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child. This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family." - Mr. and Mrs. Pete Wentz.

Welcome Home Girls!
With a front-row on-the-pink-carpet view, I witnessed everything from the flash that was Ashley Olsen and Jennifer Hudson's short bob (she was even being touched up on the carpet in-between interviews!) to SJP's GORGEOUS dress (she said she thought it looked like the Empire State building, how NYC of you Carrie Bradshaw!) and Patricia Field's radiant hair and personality. Lynn Cohen, who plays Magda, was adorable and even commented on the girl power of our fabulous video slash interview team! Jason Lewis was whisked by as he walked into the venue, but did look back to smile, so don't worry Smith, I forgive you. The Donald stopped for a brief moment as did Cynthia Nixon, Willie Garson, (who just adopted a son, aw!) Donna Karan, Fergie and Idina Menzel. The mob scene that was NYC last night once again showed how excited this city is for their SATC!
After the premiere, we were able to get a sneak preview of the after-party held at the MoMA. With the Swarovski-crystal couch, the trees wrapped in pink lights, bouquets of flowers, the music (deejayed by Samantha Ronson, and no Lindsay was not there), the appetizers and a sample of the "Carried Away" cosmo, the scene was more than glamourous!
More deets to come!

Product Preview: Salon Glaze
According to Sephora, this product, "is a clear shine rinse inspired by professional salon glazing services. The rinse-off treatment binds shine, recharges color, and adds silkiness to the hair. This non-chemical formula contains a unique blend of conditioning and lightweight silicones that coat the cuticle to shine and condition the hair shaft. With its lightweight formula, Salon Glaze won't weigh your hair down like traditional shine serums. It works on all hair colors and types, and both non-colored and color-treated hair." A full sized bottle costs $28.00.
As soon as I try it out, I'll give you a full report and tell you if it's worthy the investment or if you should just save your money. I have high hopes!
Update: Lip Gloss Quest
I did, however, find a brand of drugstore lipgloss that I liked quite a bit--I just need to keep trying to find the "just right" shade. The brand I liked the best? Maybelline Volume XL Seduction.
It glides on so easily, I don't have to use a mirror to apply it. It has a yummy flavor that reminds me of juicy, summery fruit, and it has just the perfect amount of lip-plumping tingle that wakes up my lips.
Volume XL Seduction comes in 10 shades, including a clear coat that can be applied over your favorite lipcolor to get its plumping and shine benefits. I've tried two shades: Born with It, a very pale pink that was too light for my tastes, and Fully Blushed, a pink that looks brighter in the bottle than on the lips (a good thing). Fully Blushed is pretty good, but I think I'll try another shade soon...just in time for the summer.
If you're looking for a decent lipgloss and want the added bonus of slight plumping, look no further than Volume XL Seduction...it's a very decent addition to my bulging makeup case!
Get Nailed
If you're the type who likes to do your nail care at home, don't forget to clean out your nail polish supply. Those little bottles of nail polish don't last forever, and should be tossed out every two years or so.
After you've ditched all those old polishes, start your summer out right by painting your nails one of the new shades from Essie's summer collection. They have six bright shades sure to get you in a summery mood:
- Risky Business: a glam red with a hint of shimmery tangerine
- My Place or Yours: a classic but dynamic rose
- Guilty Pleasures: a happy pink strawberry color
- Movers and Shakers: a sassy bold pink
- Secret Stash: a drama-queen's favorite--bright fuchsia
- Escapades: a shiny, showy red-coral shade
Once you pick your favorite shade, be sure to follow my tips for giving yourself the perfect at-home mani/pedi.

Cook Takes The Title
Last night's Idol proved victorious for David Cook as he was given the title of this year's American Idol. What a voice and what a season he had! Props to David Archie as well, what a competitor and what a voice, I'm sure he'll go far. I was on the edge of my seat last night, I literally didn't know which David, I mean which way it would go. I would have been happy either way, but I think David C. deserved it a little more. I can't wait to see what kind of record he'll come out with! Congrats!

Beauty Product of the Week: Positively Ageless Lifting & Firming Eye Cream
What did you think? The last eye cream I tried was flaky and did not give me the results I was after. Even though I have favorites in the world of skincare, I don't have a favorite eye cream and am always on the hunt for something new. I've been wanting to try Aveeno's products because of their blend of organics, like shitake mushrooms, and other natural ingredients.
This eye cream goes on easily. I like that it has a pump dispenser--that style of packaging seems much more hygienic than the "pots" of eye cream that are all over the market. Unlike the last product I tried, this cream does not flake off. Instead it absorbs nicely into my skin, leaving the area around my eyes feeling softer and more hydrated. I also notice that I don't have as much of a shadow under my eyes as I perhaps should, considering that I've been going through a very busy, very stressful time at work.
The final verdict? This is a very decent product that serves as a reminder to me that you don't have to go to the department stores or Sephora to find decent skincare products. I have no complaints with this product and could see myself buying it again, even though I apparently enjoy trying out new eye creams!
Fake and Bake
Many people have been apprehensive to use these at home tanners because they used to look so orange. To make things worse, they can be tricky to apply and using them incorrectly may make you look blotchy or stripy.
Here are some things to consider when using a sunless tanner:
- Buy the right product. There are so many on the market and they all come in different shades. Make sure you get the product that's right for your skin tone.
- The most important step of this whole process: EXFOLIATE! Even if you think you have the smoothest, softest skin on the planet, dead skin cells and dry patches will make for a blotchy end result. In the shower, use a textured washcloth or bath mitt and buff your skin in a circular motion with light pressure. Don't be too rough on your skin!
- Make sure your skin is completely dry and free of any moisturizers.
- Protect your hands. Since you're using your hands to apply the tanner, you may want to wear rubber gloves so they don't get overly saturated. If you don't have gloves, be sure to wash your hands every couple of minutes.
- Work quickly in a circular motion. Avoid areas like your knees or elbows--they'll soak up the product differently than the rest of your skin and will end up looking splotchy. Give your hands a final wash.
- Tan your hands. Using a cotton ball, lightly apply tanner to the tops of your hands. You don't need to worry about the palms of your hands or the spaces between your fingers.
- Give yourself time to "develop." Allow at least 30 minutes for your tanner to dry and do not get dressed during this time. After 30 minutes put on an old robe or something old and loose that you don't care about--your color could come off on to the fabric. After a full hour, it's okay to get dressed. In that time, avoid getting dressed.
- Don't reapply right away. Give yourself some time to see how the color looks before you reapply your tanner. When you do reapply, follow these steps.
- If you have splotches or stripes: exfoliate the area thoroughly and then reapply the tanner.
- To remove self tanner: sprinkle some baking soda onto a damp cloth and exfoliate the area that has the excess tanner. If this doesn't work, try Flavours Freedom Sunless Eraser--it's designed to remove tanning lotion within 4 hours of application.

I'm confused.

Jessica And Cash Get Hitched
There must be something in the water.
Jessica Alba and Cash Warren secretly got married yesterday in a Beverly Hills courthouse. Both casually dressed, Alba with her hair in a ponytail and in a long blue dress and Warren clad in a white shirt and brown pants, the nuptials took place under an arch of green silk leaves and white flowers. 40 minutes after applying for a marriage license, the two married, with no guests present.
The newlyweds are expecting a little girl this summer!

Zap That Zit!
Zits, it seems, are a universal complaint. They don't discriminate against age, skin color, or gender...they plague us all from time to time. Well, have no fear because now we have Thermaclear!
I mentioned this handy-dandy device awhile back and have now had ample opportunity to give it a test run. Here's what you need to know about this zit zapper:
HOW IT WORKS
ThermaClear treats the pimples you already have. During the two second treatment time, the device delivers a controlled burst of healing thermal energy that reaches deep beneath the surface of your skin, neutralizing the bacteria causing the pimple. This speeds the healing process, so you get clearer skin fast, up to four times faster. So, if you typically find a pimple lasts a week, with ThermaClear it might take only two or three days to heal.
HOW TO USE IT
Thermaclear is a snap to use. You just remove the cap, turn on the device, then put the applicator tip to your pimple, press the button to deliver the thermal burst, leave it on your skin until it beeps, remove and repeat on other pimples. It really is easy to use.
Thermaclear is pain free. I was a bit nervous the first time I pressed the button--I didn't know what to expect and therefore anticipated a burst of piercing pain. I was relieved to find that was not the case at all! Yes there was a quick jolt of pressure, but it didn't hurt, and I got used to it after a few uses.
DID IT WORK?
In a word: Yes. After one treatment, one of pimples went from being a subcutaneous blemish that was about to burst out and take over my cheek to just a little speck that healed very quickly. Depending on your pimple, expect to see results fast. Sure, you may need to zap it with Thermaclear more than once, but ultimately, your pimple will go away faster than if you just washed your face, used your favorite zit ointment, or did nothing.
I would have loved this thing as a teenager. If pimples are a major concern in your life, consider Thermaclear. (NOTE: if you have acne or sensitive skin, you may want to check with your dermatologist about using this device before you purchase it.)
Thermaclear is available at Sephora or online for $149.95.
Katie To Make Her Broadway Debut
What will Katie Holmes be doing this fall?
Funny you should ask.
Six nights a week, she'll be performing onstage in Arthur Miller's All My Sons alongside Dianne Wiest, Patrick Wilson and John Lithgow. This is her first play since high school.
Looks like TomKat will be calling NYC home come fall.

DIY: At Home Nail Care
If you want to save some money and get your nails looking beautiful in time for the warm weather, here are some tips for giving yourself a pedicure or manicure at home:
FOR BOTH A MANICURE OR PEDICURE:
- Get everything you need set up in one place before you start. The last thing you need is to be running around looking for a nail clipper when you're trying to give yourself a relaxing at-home spa beauty session!
- Remove any old nail polish. (Click here for my Battle of the Nail Polish Removers!)
- Soak your feet in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes. If you have a foot soak, go ahead and use it. If not, try some Epsom salts. Even if you use water and nothing else, do NOT skip this step!
- Clip your toenails straight across with toenail clippers. Doing so will help prevent ingrown nails or nail infections. Also, don't clip your toenails too short!
- Using cuticle cream and an orange stick, gently push back your cuticles. Never, ever, ever cut your cuticles. Doing so could result in an infection! Not pretty.
- Use a pumice to exfoliate your feet, paying particular attention to your heels and the balls of your feet. You may have a lot of cracked and flaky skin that needs tending to. Take your time exfoliating and don't be too rough on your feet. Avoid "cheese grater" style foot stones--they may take off a little too much!
- Massage your feet with a foot lotion. Try something with peppermint in it to make your skin feel rejuvenated and to cut down on foot odor.
- Make sure your nails are not covered in lotion.
- Use cotton balls or a specially designed toe spreader to spread out each toe.
- Apply a base coat to each nail. Doing so will help your polish last longer and will prevent the color from leaching into the nail which results in your nails looking yellow when not polished.
- After allowing the base coat to dry, apply two coats of your nail color.
- Allow nail color to dry and then apply a top coat.
- Give your toes enough time to dry before putting on shoes/socks or becoming overly active.
- Check out Earth Theraputics. They sell a nice pedicure set that contains all the tools you need to give yourself a great pedi! They also have a decent foot cream.
- Between pedis, try these Tea Tree Oil Foot Wipes--they are easy to use and make your feet feel refreshed, clean, and cool in a matter of seconds. Plus you can stash them in your purse or beach bag--they're great for the summertime!
- Like with a pedicure, take 10 to 15 minutes to soak your hands. Dry when done.
- Trim nails if they are very long.
- File nails in one direction. Do not go back and forth across your nails in a see-saw fashion!
- Use cuticle cream and an orange stick to gently push back your cuticles. Again, DO NOT CUT YOUR CUTICLES!
- Massage your hands. If you have an at-home microdermabrasion kit, you can use it on your hands to soften them up. If not, use any exfoliating cream you have on hand, or just massage your skin with your favorite hand cream.
- Make sure your nails do not have lotion on them!
- Apply a base coat and allow to dry.
- Apply two coats of your nail polish and allow to dry.
- Apply your top coat.
- Give yourself plenty of time to let your nail color dry before using your hands for heavy duty work!
- Pick up this manicure kit the next time you go to your local CVS!
Play It Safe
- 30 minutes before going out into the sun, be sure to apply sunscreen to all exposed parts of your body.
- If you are unsure how much protection you need, at least wear an SPF 15. My dermatologist has recommended SPF 30 or higher for me, probably because I am so fair skinned.
- Make sure to adequately cover your entire face, your forehead, nose, cheeks, ears, neck, and chest. There are so many sunblocks designed for your face that are not oily and that are more resistant to sweat. I like Shiseido's Ultimate Sun Protection Cream (SPF 55), $33, and so does the Skin Cancer Foundation--they've given this product their seal of approval.
- Put your makeup to work for your skin's protection. Keep your lips beautiful and protected with an SPF lipgloss like Clinique's Long Last Glosswear (SPF 15), $14. Try out a foundation that contains sunblock (like Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals). Used along with sunblock on your face, you can avoid nasty and potentially deadly sunburns.
- Be sure to cover all exposed areas of your skin with at least an SPF 15. Don't forget the nape of your neck, your shoulders, and your back, if exposed. Ask for help if you can't reach a spot.
- Reapply your sunblock if you've been sweating for an extended period of time or if you go swimming, run through the sprinkler, whatever.
- If you can stand it, limit the amount of exposed skin. Consider long sleeve and long pants if you are very sun sensitive. Wear a billed hat to further keep the sun off your face.
- Don't forget about your hair! Sun exposure will lighten your hair color--not great if you've spent a ton of money and time getting the perfect sultry brown shade. Try out a product like Frederic Fekkai's Summer Shine Sunshine Shield Spray, $22--it will give you shine, volume, and protect your lovely locks from UV rays and other environmental pollutants.
- If you have them, make sure to put sunblock on your kiddo's skin. Get them started early and help them avoid getting burned.
Couples Alert
Since California's Supreme Court turned down the law banning gay marriage, Ellen DeGeneres announced yesterday that she and girlfriend Portia de Rossi are engaged. Congrats!
Are they or aren't they? Earlier reports stated that Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson are dunzo! But wait, Jessica (Ashlee's maid of honor) will be bringing Tony as her date to her sister's nuptials this weekend. Hmmm.
