October, my favorite month of the year, starts tomorrow. Not only is it time for pumpkins, Halloween, and falling leaves, it's also Breast Cancer Awareness Month .
Breast cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death in the U.S. behind lung cancer and colon cancer. U.S. women have a 1 in 8 lifetime chance of developing invasive breast cancer and a 1 in 33 chance of dying from breast cancer. Yikes.
In the next few days, along with (or instead of) posts about makeup and beauty, I'll be highlighting some companies and products that are donating funds to breast cancer research this October. I'll also give you some statistics to think about, as well as things you can do to reduce your chances of developing breast cancer.
For starters, I encourage you all to start doing self breast exams on a regular basis. Click here for tips and resources on how to conduct an effective self exam. These regular at-home exams may just save your life.
